Video Lesson

What Does It Mean to Feel Parts in IFS?

“In Internal Family Systems (IFS), feeling parts means becoming aware of the different aspects of your inner world. Each part carries unique emotions, sensations, and stories that shape how you experience life. Understanding these parts is the first step toward inner healing.”

Why Feeling Parts Matters

  • Promotes Self-Awareness: Helps identify hidden emotions and triggers.
  • Builds Self-to-Part Relationships: Facilitates communication and harmony within.
  • Reduces Overwhelm: Allows parts to feel seen, which helps them relax.

Practical Steps to Start Feeling Your Parts

  1. Pause and Notice Sensations:

Close your eyes and tune into your body. Is there tension, warmth, or heaviness? Which emotions are surfacing?

  2. Ask Questions:
    • “What is this feeling trying to tell me?”
    • “Is there a part of me behind this sensation?”
  3. Stay Curious:

Avoid judgment and approach with compassion.

  4. Use Tools:

Log your observations and insights to track progress.

Common Bootcamps and How to Address Them

  • Feeling Stuck? Practice patience; some parts take longer to reveal themselves.
  • Overwhelmed by Emotions? Take breaks and remind yourself that all parts are welcome.
