Inner Critics in IFS

Video Lesson

The inner critic is one of the most common and powerful "Manager" parts we encounter. While it can feel harsh and destructive, in IFS we understand that even the critic has a protective intent.

Why Do We Have Inner Critics?

Most inner critics developed in childhood to protect us from being shamed or rejected by others. By criticizing us first, they try to ensure we "behave" or "perform" in ways that keep us safe. However, these parts often get stuck in extreme roles, and their "protection" ends up causing significant emotional pain.

Transforming the Critic

Healing doesn't come from silencing the critic, but from understanding it. When we approach the critic from Self-energy, we can find out what it is afraid would happen if it stopped criticizing us. This curiosity allows the part to relax and eventually transition into a more supportive internal advisor.

Watch the video above to learn how you can start relating to your inner critic with compassion and transform self-judgment into self-leadership.
