Intimacy in Internal Family Systems (IFS) is not just about our connection with others, but also the deep vulnerability and closeness we cultivate with our own internal parts.
Relational Intimacy
True intimacy with another person requires us to be "Self-led" in our relationships. When we are blended with protective parts—like those that fear rejection or those that feel the need to please—we aren't truly connecting from our core. By working with these parts, we can show up more authentically.
Cultivating Internal Closeness
Healing our relationship with ourselves is the first step toward better connections with others. This involves approaching our exiles with the same tenderness we would a loved one, and thanking our protectors for their service. This internal intimacy creates a secure base from which we can explore the world and build lasting bonds.
In the video above, we explore how IFS principles can be applied to transform your relationships and deepen the sense of intimacy in your life.
