Self-Leadership is the cornerstone of the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model. It refers to the state where the Self is at the center of the internal system, guiding and caring for all parts with compassion and clarity.
What is Self-Leadership?
In most people, parts have taken over the "driver's seat" to protect the system from pain. Leadership occurs when we help these parts step back, allowing the calm, curious, and compassionate Self to lead. When the Self leads, the internal system moves from conflict to harmony.
Signs of Self-Leadership
- •Perspective: Being able to see the big picture without being overwhelmed by a single part's emotion.
- •Compassion: Feeling genuine care for even the most difficult or "destructive" parts of yourself.
- •Clarity: Knowing how to respond to internal or external challenges from a place of wisdom.
