The "Systems" in Internal Family Systems refers to the complex, family-like dynamics that exist within your own mind. Just as a family has members with different roles, your internal world has parts that interact in predictable ways.
A Multiplicity of Mind
IFS is based on the idea that the mind is naturally multiple. We aren't just one single "me"; we are composed of many sub-personalities, or "parts." These parts form a system where some protect, some carry pain, and some manage our daily lives.
Interconnectedness
When one part of the system changes, it affects all the others. For example, when an Exile is unburdened and healed, the Protectors that were shielding it no longer need to work so hard. Understanding these systemic relationships is key to creating lasting internal harmony.
Watch the video above to explore how the systemic perspective of IFS can help you navigate your internal world with greater ease and clarity.
